About Us - Annette Dickison
Creative Background
After training at the Ilam School of Fine Arts at Canterbury University Annette gained her early teaching experience in secondary schools in Otago and Southland.
A pianist , Annette is an experienced music teacher and teaches with the Music Education Centre in Auckland.
She has directed many amateur theatrical and musical stage productions finding many similarities in the disciplines involved in performing and visual arts.
Annette taught painting with the Adult Community Education scheme at Orewa College for seven years and teaches drawing currently at Rangitoto College. She is a regular guest tutor and judge at various art clubs and societies throughout the city and also tutors private pupils.
Annette has taught drawing and painting at the Mairangi Art Centre for the last three years.
Teaching Philosophy
Great art is not created by good technique alone, but good technique greatly enhances great art.
I believe that confidence in painting comes after the basic rules have been mastered.
Whereas, “those who follow are always behind”, by first acquiring sound technical knowledge the artist can go forward with confidence to explore their own methods of expression without inhibition.
