About Us - Lance O'Gorman

Creative Background

Painting for over 30 years as a professional artist, Lance has earned the reputation of being one of New Zealand’s foremost artists, with his own highly unique and expressive style that has led to both national and international acclaim.

Lance has travelled and painted widely in New Zealand and overseas, including the United Kingdom, Europe, America, Australia, and the Pacific Islands with many of his works being held in both private and public collections. However, Lance will always have a close affinity with his home country New Zealand – the land, the sea, and the people.

As an artist Lance has a gifted sense of colour and his manipulative brush strokes combine to portray an exciting, spontaneous confidence and freedom in his paintings. With his formal training in the fine and graphic art schools, Lance has been able to explore the conceptual, impressionistic and abstract styles of art and will combine these elements, often in the same work. It is this flexibility of style and colour combinations that make his work so popular in the contempory world of art today.

Lance has had three books published, conducted numerous classes and workshops, judged national art awards, spoken on radio shows, appeared on national TV series, been a cartoonist for local newspapers and written and illustrated numerous articles for magazines. He now spends his time teaching, writing speaking and giving painting demonstrations to private and public audiences throughout New Zealand.
