About Us - Liz Sutherland
Creative Background
Liz initially trained in a commerical art photography studio where she learned to airbrush photographs for Christopher Beade. This inspired her love for portrait painting. Thirty years ago she received some intensive training from a Dutch master on the technique of oil painting and has been teaching in oils ever since. Lize specialises in oil portraits and has hundreds of students through her workshops and classes.
She has exhibited her work all over New Zealand and currently displays her creations in her studio north of Auckland.

Mairangi Arts Centre is a strong, community based visual arts education centre supporting and encouraging local/regional and culturally diverse communities to experience and enjoy a diverse range of visual arts practices, exhibitions and education programmes.
Our Purpose
To provide a supportive, nurturing and encouraging environment at Mairangi Arts Centre that fosters community access to and participation in the visual arts by offering a strong and purposeful education and exhibition programme that meets the learning and presentation needs of the community.
