About Us - Lou Pendergrast-Mathieson

Creative Background

Lou is a practising glass artist.
She completed her Degree in Glass at Unitec in 1998, and a post graduate Dip in Teaching at AUT in 2000.She has been glass casting for 12 years, lives in Takapuna and works in the Arthouse glass studio at Mairangi Art Centre
She exhibits widely in New Zealand and overseas.
Teaching is something Lou enjoys because students bring with them a wide variety of skills and life experiences to the class, and Lou feels that this enhances her own work practice.
She also loves to share her knowledge and skills with others, and enjoys getting others to experience such a unique material. Glass is not only a beautiful, tactile material but it also plays with transparency and light. The raw material is made here and so there is a wide range of colours available that reflect the New Zealand landscape.
She hopes to continue to build on the glass programme at MAC encourages people to try something different, challenging and exciting.
