About Us - Mike Peebles

Creative Background

A graduate from the Wellington School of Design, Mike has worked as a graphics designer/creative director, in print, advertising television and post production. At present he is a tutor for M.A.C, and a part time tutor at the Massey University College of Creative Arts. At Television One Avalon Mike worked both in management and creative rolls, producing three sets of Television One and two Olympic Games imageries, plus numerous programme openings. During that period he was also responsible for staff training in television graphics, animation and print. In post production Mike developed his computer graphic skills working on accounts including; Lotto, Telecom, Clear, McDonalds, Toyota, Cadbury’s and Bluebird. It was during this period that he became involved with Mobile Art and began to produce abstract and pictorial expressionistic art mainly for commercial clients.
Recently Mike has been illustrating children’s books for a Hong Kong publisher, and was awarded a bronze medal in the graphic novel Moonbeam 2009 awards.

Teaching Philosophy

The expressionistic artist is a provocative entertainer, exciting the viewer with an extravagant array of colourful moods, emotive forms and a multitude of creative themes. As artists our work is visual, and there for others to experience.

Mairangi Arts Centre is a strong, community based visual arts education centre supporting and encouraging local/regional and culturally diverse communities to experience and enjoy a diverse range of visual arts practices, exhibitions and education programmes.

Our Purpose

To provide a supportive, nurturing and encouraging environment at Mairangi Arts Centre that fosters community access to and participation in the visual arts by offering a strong and purposeful education and exhibition programme that meets the learning and presentation needs of the community.
