We will look at important aspects of photography such as exposure, composition, colour and image quality. Time will be spent looking at various photographers, genres and styles of photography such as documentary, portraiture, landscape, fashion and conceptual photography. We will visit local scenic spots around Mairangi Bay to take photographs. Thiscourse is for anyone wanting to explore photography in a supportive environment, those wanting a refresher courseand/or for artists wanting to develop their art practice further

In this studio session you will be working with professional models and have the opportunity to develop your own work alongside exercises that pinpoint specific fundamentals in depicting the human form. This experimental ceramic class gives you the opportunity to design and shape smaller scaled sculptural tiles for interior decoration. A wide range of techniques will be demonstrated including using a slab roller and pottery wheels of which eight are available.

Glass casting is an exciting contemporary art form in New Zealand. This course will introduce students to the techniques and processes of ‘lost wax’ casting and its infinite possibilities. No previous experience with glass is required, as you will learn how to make a wax model, mould making, kiln firing and glass

Students will make 1 small sculptural (lead crystal) glass object and gain an appreciation of NZ cast glass while developing their own ideas and works with guidance in a ‘not too serious environment’.

This is a completely new approach to teaching students how to use paint to capture the essence of an observed object. Students of all levels will be taught techniques they have never seen before. This ceramic class will cover tableware and clay design for beginners and advanced students. The main project will be the designing and creation of a very extraordinary, fully functional teapot.
Students will be introduced to a wide range of pottery skills including ‘throwing’ on a pottery wheel. There are eight pottery wheels available! Techniques such as carving and the use of decorative slips will be demonstrated.

A32: Dazzling Dessert Bowls

This course will cover tableware and clay design for beginners and advanced students.. The initial theme is the designing and making of a fancy and fully funtional dessert dish. The shape is a result of your imagination so anything is possible! Techniques on how to form and build with clay will be demonstrated including the process of ‘throwing’ vessels on a pottery wheel. This first project will teach students handling skills that will enable them to work on other projects further into the term with supervision and support by the Tutor.
